The Mar Thoma Suvishesha Sevika Sanghom Report 2008

 

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name – Psalm 103:1

 

The Year 2008 saw many turmoil and strife all around us.  Falling economy, job cuts and natural calamities brought unhappiness and restlessness to mankind. During all these difficult times, our Lord had walked side-by-side with us.  We are indeed thankful to Almighty God for all the blessings we have received during 2008.  With many thanks to God and great appreciation to all the members of the Sevika Sanghom, I present this 2008 Annual Report of the Detroit Mar Thoma Suvishesha Sevika Sanghom.

 

In a duly called general body meeting of the Sevika Sanghom on Sunday, December 7, 2008, the following office bearers for 2008 were elected.

During the year, the Sevika Sanghom monthly meetings were conducted on every 1^st Saturday in the member’s homes.  These meetings provided an opportunity for the members to study the Bible and an extended time of fellowship.  Also on every 2^nd Sundays after worship services, we met for Bible Study and to transact various business matters.  This year we collected $1,582.00 for different charities and mission work.  One of the projects for 2008 was to support one nursing student in India.

 

The World Day of Prayer was celebrated on Sunday March 9, 2008. Rev. V.T. John From Bethel Mar Thoma Church, Frankfort, Illinois led the worship service and Sevika Sanghom members assisted during the service.  This year’s theme was “God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding” and the worship booklet was focused on the Women in Guyana.  The offertory for the Wod Day Prayer in the amount of $185.00 and was sent to the World Day of Prayer USA Committee.

 

The Sevika Sanghom Day was celebrated on Sunday, September 21, 2008.  During the Service, Mrs. Mini Shaji (Kochamma) gave an inspiring message and Sevika Sanghom members assisted during the service.  The 9^th National Sevika Sanghom Conference was Held at the Mar Thoma Church of Greater Seattle, Washington from October 9-12, 2008. Three members of our parish attended the conference.

 

The General Body Meeting the Sevika Sanghom was held on Sunday January 11, 2009 and the office bearers for the year 2009 were elected.  Thanks go to each and every members of the church for their prayers, and support towards the Sevika Sanghom activities. On behalf of the Detroit Mar Thoma Suvishesha Sevika Sanghom, I take this opportunity to thank Rev. Shaji K. Thomas for his leadership and guidance through out the year. Special thanks to Rev. P. Chacko, Rev. Philip Varghese, and Rev.M.P.Yohannan for their leadership and spiritual support.
